In 2016, Singapore’s Minister for Communications and Information, Dr. Yaacob Ibrahim, announced that the country’s Smart Nation vision has entered its “build” phase.
As part of the nation’s Infocomm Media Masterplan, the private and public sector will cooperate on converging areas in the infocomm and media sectors to bring about smart technologies that focus on Singapore’s infrastructure and services.
According to data from Analysys Mason, total IoT revenue in Singapore is projected to be S$714 million in 2025. Out of this, connectivity and services would account for S$95 million and applications S$349 million.
In 2017, Singapore telco, M1 announced the rollout of narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) network. It is the first of its kind in Southeast Asia and second in the world. It is also collaborating with Singapore power retailer Keppel Electric to test an NB-IoT-based energy management meter that will enable businesses and consumers to track their energy consumption.
