Presently located in IBM’s Watson Centre at the Marina Bay Financial Centre, IBM Studios Singapore was opened in Singapore less than a year ago, as a regional design centre that aims to help customers to create individualized business solutions and models using IBM’s research technology, cognitive capabilities and experience design, and to better align their businesses with the digital disruption in Asia.
In the 20,000 sqft workshop styled space of IBM Studios, researchers, data scientists, software engineers, IoT architects and analytics industry experts are provided with the space for collaboration and experimentation in line with IBM’s focus on digital reinvention.
IBM Studios Singapore offers a dedicated and strategic platform to tap into five different programmes and services of IBM: IBM iX (Interactive Experience), IBM Cognitive Solutions, IBM Research, IBM Agile, and IBM Garage.
Having brought in more than 100 designers and digital experts, IBM iX utilizes data insights to redesign new digital solutions and identify unique customer experience strategies to create a more user-centric result for its clients’ customers. IBM iX relies on a principle of IBM, IBM Design Thinking, which represents a product development approach that depends on rapid prototyping and constant reinvention.
According to Stefan Hirsh, ASEAN Lead for IBM iX, IBM designers will work side-by-side with clients and partners to invent and co-create personalized business solutions for a next level customer experience.
The IBM iX team has already begun their collaboration with Singapore Airlines, and designed two applications FlyNow and Roster to provide pilots with ready-access to flight planning support, forms and reports utilized by the pilot pre, during and post flight, thereby improving pilot efficiency.
IBM cognitive solutions work on the newest and most cutting edge technologies, such as data visualization, predictive analytics, internet of things, and big data. With each round of Design Thinking or Visioning Workshop with clients, the core team accesses the wide pool of data available for agile development of actionable insights through a Proof of Value (“PoV”) that addresses the client’s business questions.
Further developing IBM’s leadership in the finance, trade and technology sector and present capabilities in design and blockchain, IBM Center for Blockchain Innovation and Cognitive@Nation Scale represent the research arm of IBM Studios Singapore. An IBM Research Case Study, in collaboration with Singapore’s Land Transport Authority, studies fusion analytics across various platforms like video, Wifi, fare card, and telco, to optimize the people-centric incident management system of Singapore’s public transport network.
IBM Agile encourages more adaptive planning and development for clients to respond to changes more rapidly and flexibly in a fast-paced world, while IBM Garage leads clients to innovate through experimenting and designing applications based on blockchain technologies for integration into the clients’ current operations and systems.
Besides the design reinvention and personalized customer innovation services that IBM Studios Singapore offers, the centre will also be organising hackathons and customized workshops, available to a broad ecosystem of innovators, including software companies, startups, developers and systems integrators.
The centre in Singapore will play host to a multitude of clients in various markets and industries in the region, tapping on IBM’s cognitive and data analytic technologies. Some collaborations that IBM Studios Singapore have been engaged in includes DBS Singapore and Parkway Pantai.
With the opening of IBM Studios Singapore, Singapore joins a global network of 30 similar IBM Studios around the world as a regional hub, contributing to the robust presence in Asia Pacific with other studios in Bangalore, Melbourne and Shanghai.
