The IoT Market Potential
Malaysia is expected to fulfil its targeted GDP growth rate of 5.1% projected under the 11th Malaysian Plan (2016 – 2020). Digital Transformation and the adoption of IoT Technologies will be key to unlocking future potential growth. With IoT growing to be an integral part of the digital economy, agriculture, healthcare, manufacturing and transportation are sectors that are identified to have the most potential for IoT deployment. To boost Malaysia’s manufacturing sector, the National Industry 4.0 Framework was put in place to provide a concerted and comprehensive transformation agenda.
Other initiatives under the 11th Malaysia Plan include:
1) National eCommerce Strategic Roadmap – The National eCommerce Council (NeCC) was established to drive implementation of the roadmap objective of doubling Malaysia’s eCommerce growth rate and reach a GDP contribution of RM 211 billion by 2020
2) Digital Free Trade Zone – USD$62.8 million Government grants provided; USD$65 billion worth of goods to flow through by 2025
3) Smart Cities – The aim is to incorporate IoT into the city and accelerate the progression of the digital economy. Smart Cities initiatives are being implemented in populated cities and states such as Kuala Lumpur and Selangor to test out urban management solutions
