The Viet Solutions 2020 Competition

Earlier this month, the Viet Solutions 2020 competition, a hunt for Vietnam’s top digital solutions organised by the Ministry of Information and Communications and Viettel Group has kicked off. Contestants are also able to submit solutions to existing problems in healthcare, education, finance and banking, agriculture, transportation and logistics, energy, environmental resources, and industrial manufacturing.

Apart from cash prizes, the winning teams will get the opportunity to sign contracts with Viettel to commercialise their products and get up to 75 percent of the generated revenue.

Speaking at the launch ceremony of the competition, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung asserted that the COVID 19 pandemic is a once-in-a-century opportunity to accelerate digital transformation on a national level. He further stressed that “it’s time to invest heavily in digital transformation and promote the development of digital technology companies in Vietnam for the country to create breakthroughs".

According to him, the first step in digital transformation is a change in mindset and business operation models. Digital technologies should only be the tools to realise those changes.

With regard to the public sector, Minister Hung mentioned that digital transformation strategies would be developed for ministries and localities. In particular, all provinces and cities will need to have data systems connected and secured by the end of the year.

Launch of 'made in Vietnam' digital platforms

In June, the Ministry of Information and Communications also hosted an event to launch two “made in Vietnam” digital applications called VAIS and Vbee. These are Vietnamese speech processing platforms with AI application. This is an activity in the series of events by the Ministry to introduce 'made in Vietnam' digital solutions as part of the implementation stage of the National Digital Transformation Project to 2025, orientation to 2030, which has been recently approved by the Prime Minister.

At the launch ceremony, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Hung emphasised that the application of automation and voice incorporation into smart devices such as smart homes, car equipment, smart traffic, smart cities, is becoming mandatory in the Fourth Industrial Revolution of the country.

Before the launch of VAIS and Vbee platforms, in an attempt to promote digital transformation, the Ministry of Information and Communications has continuously introduced platforms such as platforms for learning and online training, remote medical examination and treatment counselling support platforms, Vietnamese cloud computing platforms, enterprise management platforms and online video conferencing platforms.
