AI, IoT, to VR Increase National Industry Productivity (Warta Ekonomi)

The government is determined to realize the vision of Indonesia as a developed and prosperous country. To achieve this goal, the acceleration step taken requires a contribution from the manufacturing industry sector.

Therefore, the manufacturing industry continues to be encouraged to multiply breakthroughs amid increasingly intense business competition. Innovation through the use of technology and the efficiency of the production process will be the key to strengthening the competitiveness of the manufacturing industry in Indonesia.

“Mr. President Joko Widodo has instructed that there needs to be a long jump to precede the progress of other nations towards the vision of Advanced Indonesia,” Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto said in Jakarta on Thursday (8/22/2019).

The Minister of Industry explained, Indonesia already has a road map in readiness to enter the industrial era 4.0. This is stated in Making Indonesia 4.0, which was launched by President Jokowi in April 2018.

“So, we already have a strategy going forward in facing the digitalisation era. Through the roadmap, we are revitalizing the manufacturing sector and building an innovation-based economy,” he said.

The technology that is developing along with the rolling of industry 4.0, among others is in the form of artificial intelligence (AI), advanced robotic, internet of things (IoT), 3D printing, and augmented reality /virtual reality (AR / VR).

“This technology is considered to be able to increase productivity and quality for the industrial sector more efficiently. So that the industrial sector will continue to contribute greatly to the economy,” he added.

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the industrial sector still contributed the most to the structure of the national gross domestic product (GDP) in the second quarter of 2019 with the achievement of 19.52% (YoY). There are three sectors that supported the growth of the non-oil and gas processing industry in the second quarter of this year and were able to surpass the economic growth which was at 5.05%.
