Telkomsel and Indosat Compete to Develop the Internet of Things (Katadata)

Internet of Things (IoT) is increasingly in demand by many companies to be interconnected, so they are ready to face the industrial era 4.0.As a telecommunications company, PT Telekomunikasi Selular ( Telkomsel ) and PT Indosat Tbk also focused on developing IoT.

Telkomsel launched the Telkomsel Innovation Center (TINC) program, today.This program summarizes various activities to form the IoT ecosystem in Indonesia, such as the provision of laboratories, mentoring , bootcamp with experts, and access to connectivity for startups , developers , and system integrators with related industry players.

Telkomsel President Director Ririek Adriansyah explained, IoT can connect many sectors so that productivity increases and efficiency is created.“The focus is on solutions to everyday life and increasing productivity. We hope the actors will invest (in the IoT field),” he said on the sidelines of the IoT Conference at Balai Kartini, Jakarta, Wednesday (25/7).

According to him, it is necessary to collaborate to develop the IoT ecosystem.Through this program, Telkomsel targets to become a forum for hundreds of national innovators.At least, for a year, this collaboration can produce various Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) based business solutions.

Telkomsel’s Vice President of Corporate Planning Andi Kristianto added that the launch of the TINC program was one of Telkomsel’s digital transformation steps.“We hope that a mature IoT ecosystem will be created, thus supporting the creation of ready-to-use products that are also commercially feasible for the community,” he said.

The IoT solution that has passed the incubation period includes bike sharing at the University of Indonesia (UI) which is the result of collaboration with Banopolis;automatic fish feeder with the presence of aqua culture solution for farmers and farmers in various regions in Indonesia as a result of collaboration with eFishery;and, the smart bin waste management system with Danone and Alfamart.
